Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio has become the focal point of a team closing in on its first title.

The 22-year-old player collected four hits in Game 3 on Monday in St. Petersburg, Florida. That performance made him the first 22-year-old in 80 years to record four hits in a World Series game. The Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 to take a 3-0 lead in the series. They are now one win away from their first championship in 57 years of franchise history.

Chourio began the decisive fifth-inning rally with a base hit up the middle. He finished the inning with a double into the right-center-field gap. The Brewers scored eight two-out runs in that frame. His 23rd career postseason game marked another step in a rapid rise. He has accumulated eight hits through the first three games of this series.

Brewers hitting coach Daniel Vogelbach noted that Chourio is still a young man who could be playing college baseball. Instead, he is steering the team toward the pennant. President of baseball operations Matt Arnold, who was general manager when the team signed Chourio out of Venezuela at age 16 in 2021, said the player is turning into a superstar. Captain Christian Yelich observed that Chourio possesses a slow heartbeat and enjoys the moment.

Chourio described his approach in Spanish as staying calm and focusing on positive results. He acknowledged that others have high expectations of him and that he holds himself to the same standard. His October campaign began with a key defensive play in the NL Division Series. He caught a Ty France fly ball that clanked off a roof cable in Game 1. He followed that performance with a walk-off single against closer Mason Miller the next day.

Field coordinator Néstor Corredor, who coached Chourio in Venezuelan winter ball and the World Baseball Classic, said the player has settled his game. Chourio is working counts and shortening his swing. Corredor noted that Chourio understands he does not have to be the hero because a full team supports him. Backup catcher Gary Sánchez said Chourio seems to prefer these high-pressure moments over the regular season.

Statistical data supports Chourio's postseason success. His regular-season OPS from 2024 to 2026 stands at .799. His playoff OPS over the same span is .882. League-wide OPS typically drops 39 points in the postseason, but Chourio has performed better in the playoffs. He became the first player to record three consecutive seasons with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases before turning 23.

Chourio credits his comfort level to his upbringing and his name. His father was a Los Angeles Lakers fan, and his younger brother Jaison carries the middle name Oneel after Shaquille O'Neal. Chourio's middle name, Bryan, honors Kobe Bryant. He has read Bryant's autobiography and tries to adopt the lessons within. Chourio stated that he knows how hard he has worked for this opportunity and finds the current success gratifying.
