Chiefs Sign Justin Tucker to Practice Squad
Kansas City adds the eight-time All-Pro as starter Harrison Butker struggles with long-range accuracy.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad on Tuesday.
The move responds to a recent drop in reliability from starter Harrison Butker. Tucker, a 36-year-old eight-time All-Pro, joins the roster after spending the 2025 season unsigned following a 10-game suspension. He last played in January 2025. The Kansas City Star first reported the signing, which CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz confirmed.
Tucker enters the league with a career field goal percentage of 89.1%. He ranks 14th in NFL history with 417 made field goals. He also holds records for the fastest time to reach 300 career field goals and 1,000 points. His 66-yard kick was the longest in league history until the Jacksonville Jaguars' Cam Little surpassed it with 67-yard and 68-yard attempts.
Kansas City held workouts this week for three kickers. The team selected Tucker over former Los Angeles Rams kicker Harrison Mevis. Tucker had previously worked out with the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets without signing a contract.
The signing follows a contentious release from Baltimore in May 2025. The Baltimore Banner reported in January that six women accused Tucker of sexually inappropriate conduct at spas. That number grew to 16 accusers across eight locations. The NFL suspended him for the first 10 games of the 2025 season for violating its personal conduct policy.
Butker has missed six kicks this season, including one extra point. In Week 7, a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, he missed a 58-yard field goal at halftime and a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said after that game that Butker has been consistent but is currently off a bit and needs to fix it.
Butker is 9-of-10 from inside 50 yards this season. His struggles have come primarily from long range. He remains the Chiefs' starting kicker, but the addition of Tucker to the practice squad signals a shift in the team's approach to special teams.
