Federal authorities in Illinois have charged a man with mailing threatening letters to members of Congress.

Matthew Unglesbee is accused of sending four envelopes containing a white granular substance to lawmakers.

Three of the letters included threatening language, while a fourth contained the handwritten note “HAH enjoy the gift.”

The fourth letter also included a separate note reading “HA HA.”

All envelopes were addressed in Unglesbee’s name and included his home address.

He faces two charges: false information and hoaxes, and mailing threatening communications.

His initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

During an interview with FBI personnel on Sunday, Unglesbee allegedly admitted to mailing the four letters.

He stated he sent them after hearing about other suspicious mailings earlier in the month.

The FBI is separately investigating those other letters, which were sent to Congress members and elections officials in recent weeks.

Unglesbee told agents he knew recipients would perceive the letters as dangerous.

He identified the white substance as salt, saying it “kind of looks like” anthrax, according to authorities.',
