The Miami Dolphins squandered a 10-point halftime advantage on Sunday, falling 24-19 to the New England Patriots.

Miami entered the break with a 13-3 lead after limiting the Patriots to 53 passing yards and three points in the first half. Quarterback Malik Willis threw for 112 yards and a touchdown, while the defense held New England at bay. Coach Jeff Hafley noted that the team played its best two quarters of the season, marking the first time the Dolphins have held a lead all the way to the halftime whistle.

The momentum shifted in the second half. The Patriots scored 21 unanswered points, exploiting gaps in the Dolphins' coverage. The defense allowed two long passes for touchdowns, measuring 43 and 48 yards, which extended the lead. Miami did not score again until Malik Willis connected with rookie Kevin Coleman Jr. on a 35-yard pass with two minutes remaining. That final score brought the deficit to five points, but time expired before a tie could be reached.

Hafley identified the collapse as a teaching moment, stating that the team must learn to finish games against experienced opponents. Captain Jordyn Brooks suggested the team was too excited at halftime, allowing the Patriots to remain calm and make necessary plays. Brooks emphasized that the loss would provide a valuable lesson in maintaining focus.

Linebacker Chop Robinson emerged as a standout performer, recording two sacks on Drake Maye. According to NFL NextGen Stats, Robinson generated pressure on 26 of 110 snaps this season, leading all pass rushers. In contrast, running back Ollie Gordon received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the third quarter for arguing with a defender. The penalty pushed a third-and-five situation to third-and-20, a down the Dolphins failed to convert. Gordon admitted after the game that maintaining composure is a key area for improvement.

The Dolphins’ rushing attack struggled, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry for a total of 74 yards. Left guard Kadyn Proctor remains in the concussion protocol following his absence from Sunday's game. The team will host the Detroit Lions next Sunday.
