North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick addressed rumors about his personal life during a press conference on Monday, October 26, which previewed the Tar Heels’ game against Connecticut. Asked about reports regarding his relationship with Jordon Hudson, Belichick did not confirm or deny that the two had broken up. He appeared frustrated by the line of questioning and kept his answer short before steering the discussion back to football.

Belichick turned to a reporter from WRAL and asked, "Do you work for a tabloid now?" He then added, "Yeah, I'll keep my personal comments and my relationships to myself, if that's alright with you." The exchange occurred after TMZ Sports reported over the weekend that Belichick and Hudson ended their romantic relationship last year. The outlet cited a source close to both individuals who said the pair remain close friends and maintain their business partnerships. The report also noted that Hudson has begun seeing other people.

Neither Hudson nor Belichick has publicly acknowledged the breakup. Earlier in the season, Belichick spoke to the Wall Street Journal about the extent of Hudson’s involvement in his professional life. He explained that when he took the coaching job in December, he was managing five television shows, a radio program, and a book deal. To manage his workload, he sent an email asking that requests for his personal appearances be forwarded to Hudson so he could coordinate them outside the university.

Belichick stated that this administrative arrangement was misreported by several media outlets as evidence that Hudson was involved in every aspect of his work. "Didn't have anything to do with the university. Well, that was leaked as 'Jordon's involved in every single thing that I do and she's copied on every email.' That's just a flat-out lie," he said. He described later characterizations of her role, such as claims that she was acting as the general manager, as ridiculous.

The team is currently 4-4 under Belichick in his second season. This follows a period of internal review involving general manager Michael Lombardi and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick. Steve Belichick, who had been on medical leave since August 6, resigned effective October 27 after an investigation into the program’s culture concluded. Outside lawyers had questioned individuals regarding alleged drug-related conduct involving the head coach and his interactions with players.

Lombardi resigned on September 3 after four weeks of administrative leave. Belichick, who is in the second year of a five-year, $50 million contract, was not found to have committed wrongdoing. The agreement requires him to promote an atmosphere of compliance and maintain institutional control of the program in line with university, NCAA, and ACC rules. He said the program aims to do things the right way and meet with outside counsel to finalize improvements in areas where they can improve.
