Inter Miami moved into second place in the Eastern Conference standings after beating the New England Revolution 2-1 on Sunday night in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
The victory capped a late rally that erased a first-half deficit and extended the visitors' road record to 10 wins, four losses, and three draws. That total gives Miami three more away victories than any other club in the league. The win also ended New England's four-game winning streak, leaving the hosts with a home record of 18 wins, 11 losses, and four draws.
Both teams played to a 0-0 draw in the first half, with goalkeepers Dayne St. Clair and Matt Turner each making two saves. The deadlock broke in the 53rd minute when Dániel Gazdag scored for New England. Gazdag finished off a pass from Peyton Miller and Ilay Feingold, his second goal in 11 appearances this season.
The assist set a career high for 18-year-old defender Miller, who now has nine for the season. Feingold also reached a personal best with his fifth assist. Inter Miami equalized in the 69th minute through Germán Berterame, who finished a play started by Lionel Messi and Telasco Segovia. The goal marked Messi's first goal contribution in three matches.
Messi took control of the game in the 83rd minute when he scored the winning goal. Assisted by Segovia, who leads the league with 12 assists, Messi put the ball in the net for his 26th goal of the year. That total leads the league, while his 16 assists tie him for second most. With 42 total goal contributions, Messi leads the competition by nine.
St. Clair finished with three saves to protect the result. The teams met in April, drawing 1-1 in Miami. Inter Miami will finish the regular season on Saturday by hosting Charlotte FC. New England will travel to Orlando to face Orlando City in their final match.
The result improved Inter Miami's overall record to 16 wins, six losses, and 11 draws.
