CBS Sports released its Week 8 NFL projections on Tuesday, marking a return to form after a mixed Week 7. The outlet went 8-6 straight up and 7-6-1 against the spread last week, with its five designated locks falling 2-3. This keeps the locks at 17-17-1 for the season, while the overall record stands at 65-41-1 on moneyline picks.
The first lock features the 4-2 Jaguars hosting the 2-5 Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Indianapolis offense has lost three consecutive games, averaging just 4.5 yards per play, a mark tied for the worst in the league. Quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown an interception in all but one game and ranks 31st of 33 eligible passers in rating. Jacksonville, coming off a bye, allows an 87.7 passer rating and is tied for third in interceptions with seven. The projection is Jaguars 33, Colts 20, with a spread of Jaguars -7.5.
Cincinnati hosts Tennessee at 1 p.m., with the Bengals favored by 10.5 points. The Bengals scored 35 points in the second half against Baltimore recently, while the Titans rank 29th in passer rating and are tied for last in yards per attempt. Cincinnati’s defense has the third-best red zone efficiency, allowing touchdowns on 35% of trips, compared to 47.4% for the Titans. The projected score is Bengals 35, Titans 21.
In a unique scheduling arrangement, the winless 0-6 Chargers are listed as the road team but will play at SoFi Stadium against the Rams at 4:05 p.m. Los Angeles, favored by 6.5 points, allows only 186.3 passing yards per game, fourth-lowest in the league. The projection is Rams 30, Chargers 17.
New England visits Miami at 4:25 p.m., with the Patriots favored by 7.5 points. The Patriots are 8-4-1 against the spread on the road under Mike Vrabel and have won road favorite games by an average of 13 points. Miami allows a league-high 116.8 passer rating. The projection is Patriots 30, Dolphins 20.
The Sunday night game on NBC features the Eagles against the Commanders at 8:20 p.m. Washington, favored by 4 points, comes off a bye but lost receiver Terry McLaurin for the season to a torn patellar tendon.
