The romantic comedy 'Eavesdropping' reached 282 million lifetime views across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube as of October 2026. The series is currently in its third season. It avoids streaming services and television networks entirely.

Nicolas Alayo, Kaleigh Howland, and Christian Sullivan created the show. They also act in every episode. The trio developed the project to merge traditional serialized storytelling with social media marketing tactics. They skipped the standard Hollywood development process to keep production costs low and flexible.

"We wanted to be where the people were," Alayo said on the 'Strictly Business' podcast. "We didn't want to wait for permission."

Episodes run only a few minutes long. The structure demands quick hooks and enough character detail to spark debate. Fans discuss the plot on Discord, sharing theories and opinions. This format differs from microdrama apps, which the creators say often lack creative range under similar time limits.

Monetization relies on a mix of free and paid access. The show operates a Patreon page where 15 percent of 9,000 subscribers pay for early content. Brand integrations provide additional revenue. The team holds live screenings, with the next event scheduled for November 13 at Kult L.A. They are also exploring licensing deals and a potential adaptation into a traditional long-form format.

Howland argues that social video lowers the cost of entry for new writers. "The barrier for entry is close to zero for posting to social," she said. She expects more creators to use the medium to build their own audiences before seeking larger deals.

The series demonstrates that scripted content can sustain a large following without paid subscriptions or network backing. The creators maintain full control over production and distribution.
