Eric Bauza, the Canadian voice actor known for his work in the Looney Tunes franchise, has died at the age of 46. His family announced the sudden death in a statement posted to Instagram on Sunday. According to Variety, the cause was hypertensive cardiovascular disease, and he died at his home.
Bauza provided the voices for Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, and Foghorn Leghorn in the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy. He reprised those roles, along with the character Road Runner, in the summer animated feature Coyote vs. Acme. He also voiced Toad General in the 2023 film The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which became the fifth highest-grossing film internationally this year.
Born in Ontario to a Filipino family, Bauza cited the Looney Tunes cartoons as a primary influence during his childhood. In a 2021 interview with NBC News, he stated that he used to imitate the characters' voices while growing up. "Looney Tunes transcends all languages and all cultures," he told the network. "It doesn't matter what part of the planet you're from. You get the comedy."
His work in television earned him three Emmy Awards for outstanding voice performance between 2022 and 2025. Channing Dungey, chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks, released a statement through the Hollywood Reporter praising Bauza's talent. Dungey described him as a unique voice artist who brought joy to millions globally.
Dungey noted that Bauza followed in the footsteps of Mel Blanc, a legendary voice actor for the studio. The chairman added that Bauza considered carrying on the legacy of the Looney Tunes to be one of the greatest honors of his life. Bauza had also recently appeared in the release Forgotten Island before his death.
