The Milwaukee Public Schools district canceled classes for Friday, October 30, to accommodate a citywide victory parade. The closure follows the Milwaukee Brewers' 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, a result that clinched the World Series in five games and ended a 58-year wait for a franchise championship.
The decision affects thousands of students and allows residents to join the estimated large crowds for the downtown route. The celebration will conclude with a fan fest at Henry Maier Festival Park, located near the Lake Michigan shoreline. Local officials expect a heavy police presence to manage the anticipated traffic and pedestrian volume.
The win sparked immediate festivities at the venue. Thousands of Brewers supporters attended the final game, outnumbering the visiting Rays fans in the stands. Celebrations continued in Milwaukee after the final out. One attendee described the scale of the local response while waiting for a ticket to a rally at American Family Insurance Amphitheater. He reported being behind a line of 34,000 people at 8 a.m.
Beyond the schools, local institutions adjusted their rules for the holiday. Michael Maxwell, the presiding judge in Waukesha County, issued a formal declaration regarding courtroom attire. His order allows staff, litigants, and attorneys to wear Brewers clothing through the end of the victory parade. Maxwell stated that such attire is in compliance with the professional decorum expected of those appearing before the court.
