United Way Suncoast operates within a multi-county service region in Florida.
The organization announced on Wednesday that it will expand its coverage to 15 additional ZIP codes in South Sarasota County.
The new service area includes the cities of Venice, North Port, Nokomis, Laurel, and Osprey. United Way Suncoast will also serve portions of Englewood that fall within Sarasota County.
United Way Charlotte County will continue to manage operations in its existing territory, specifically the Englewood ZIP codes located within Charlotte County. The groups stated they are coordinating with United Way of Florida to ensure that community programs remain aligned with local needs. This coordination includes preserving the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, known as VITA.
The expansion occurs while United Way South Sarasota County transfers its disaster response functions to another approved provider working with Volunteer Florida.
United Way Suncoast serves as the fiscal agent for 211 Suncoast Cares. This information and referral network currently serves residents in Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties. The organization stated that the enlarged service area is intended to connect residents with available resources.
