Apple is preparing to roll out two new features for Apple TV subscribers with iOS 27.2, which is expected to arrive next week. The update extends user profiles to the iPhone and iPad and introduces official sign language support for certain movies and shows.
Until now, Apple TV has been the only major streaming service that does not offer user profiles on iPhone and iPad. That gap closes with iOS and iPadOS 27.2. Profiles are already available in tvOS for watching Apple TV content on the big screen, and the update carries them over to Apple's other platforms.
Profiles created on one device sync automatically to the others. Each viewer can keep a personalized playback history, queue and set of recommendations. Parents who set up a profile for a child can limit that viewer to age-appropriate Apple TV content.
Apple is also expanding the choice of profile pictures in iOS 27.2. Characters from Apple TV children's programs, including The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad, and Stillwater, are now available as profile images.
The second addition is aimed at accessibility. Apple TV is going beyond subtitle options by adding official sign language support on selected titles. With iOS 27.2, users can choose to turn on American Sign Language (ASL) or British Sign Language (BSL).
The setting is found in the Settings app under Apps, then TV, then Sign Language. It is not yet known how many Apple TV titles will support sign language when the feature launches.
Apple TV costs $14.99 per month. It can also be obtained at a discount through the Apple One bundle.
