Apple Reportedly Lifts iPhone Duo Orders by Over 40% as Demand Surges

Supply chain sources say Apple has raised production targets for its first folding iPhone after pre-orders drew what the company called "extraordinary" demand.

Apple has reportedly raised its iPhone Duo orders by more than 40%, according to supply chain reports, following a pre-order period the company characterized as "extraordinary" in terms of demand.

Pre-orders for the company's first folding iPhone opened on Friday. Within about a minute, customers began reporting that delivery estimates were slipping, with some dates stretching into late January. At the time it was unclear whether the delays pointed to heavy demand or to limited supply.

Apple attributed the extended wait times to demand, though "extraordinary" is a term the company regularly uses when new iPhone models go on sale. To discourage scalping, Apple also capped purchases at two units per customer.

Some buyers have since seen their estimated shipping dates move earlier. A DigiTimes report, citing supply chain sources, may explain why: it says Apple has stepped up production in response to the response from buyers.

According to that report, Apple expects strong demand to last and has lifted its shipment target for the device's first 12 months from 9.7 million units to 14 million units. The figure suggests the delays were driven mainly by demand rather than by weak supply.

Early adopters may face some rough edges. Many third-party apps have not yet been optimized for the new device, although Apple says the situation is improving quickly as developers add support. First reviews, based on roughly a week of use, have been broadly consistent, and app support is among five key takeaways that emerged from them.

Another recurring point in the reviews is the move to Touch ID, which is seen as a downgrade. A separate report published on 2026-10-22 says Apple is already testing prototypes of an iPhone Duo 2 that would use Face ID.
