Amazon announced on 2026-10-22 that Kindle Unlimited, its long-running book subscription service, will now be known as Kindle+. The change is mostly a new name, but it also brings a larger selection of audiobooks for subscribers.
The service continues to cost $11.99 per month. According to the description of the offering, it gives members access to millions of ebooks, along with thousands of audiobooks, comics, manga and magazines.
Subscribers can borrow up to 20 digital books, audiobooks or comics at once. Titles can be read or heard in the Kindle app on Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad, as well as on Kindle devices.
The main practical change is in audio. As reported by Maria Diaz at ZDNet, the update widens an audiobook category that was already part of the subscription. Authors will also have the option to make more of their eligible audiobooks available through Kindle+, including titles narrated by AI.
Amazon says it wants to improve the reading experience by letting people carry on with an ebook through virtual narration once they have put their Kindle down and moved on with their day. Subscribers will be able to choose from a considerably bigger pool of audiobooks, ranging from those read by traditional narrators to ones produced with Virtual Voice.
Virtual Voice is Amazon's tool that allows authors to offer AI-narrated editions of their books. Even so, the ZDNet report notes that Kindle+ adds more human-narrated audiobooks as well, so the expansion is not limited to synthetic voices.
New subscribers can try Kindle+ with a 30-day free trial.
